HOUSTON, Texas – Authorities in Houston are currently investigating a tragic incident where a young woman lost her life during a car club meetup event near Grimes Park in southeast Houston. The shooting took place in the 5100 block of Reed Road, close to the park, around 6:45 p.m.

   The victim has been identified as 19-year-old Makala Lacy by her family. Described as a cheerful individual, Lacy’s mother, Chandra Williams, expressed deep sorrow over the loss of her daughter, calling her “my only girl. My baby.”

   Upon arrival at the scene, Houston Police officers found Lacy in the median with multiple gunshot wounds. Despite attempts by first responders to provide medical assistance, Lacy was pronounced dead at the scene.

   Lieutenant J.P. Horelica of the Houston Police Department shared that witnesses were able to identify the alleged shooter and provide information about his vehicle. The suspect later contacted authorities and indicated his intention to surrender at a nearby police station. While the individual is currently being questioned, no charges have been filed yet.

   Horelica disclosed that the shooting occurred in the midst of a large crowd gathered for the car club meetup and activities at the park. Incidents of violence are rare at such events, making this tragic occurrence particularly shocking.

   Reflecting on the loss of her daughter, Williams revealed that Lacy had left home earlier in the day, expecting to return by 6:30 p.m. However, she never made it back home. Williams delivered a message to the perpetrator, promising that there would be justice for Makala.

   The community is left reeling from this senseless act of violence, as authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Lacy’s tragic death. The loss of a young life under such circumstances has left many in mourning and seeking answers.
