Aberdeen, Scotland – A man has been sentenced to 12 years in prison, with eight to be served in custody, for abducting and violently assaulting a woman over the course of more than 21 hours. Leslie Jackson’s brutal attack on his victim on July 30, 2022, resulted in 54 separate injuries.
Despite the presence of a young child, Jackson, 38, repeatedly punched the woman in the face, knocking her unconscious. He then proceeded to strangle her and assault her with a knife, threatening to give her a ‘Chelsea smile’ by holding the weapon across her mouth. The victim was ultimately able to escape the following afternoon by jumping from a ground floor window with a makeshift tourniquet around her leg.
Jackson admitted to abduction, assault to severe injury, permanent disfigurement, and danger of life during his appearance at the High Court in Glasgow on May 8, 2024. The Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service noted that such violent offenses inflict lasting trauma on survivors and their families, especially on children who witness them.
Moira Orr, who oversees homicide and major crime for the Crown Office and Procurator Fiscal Service, expressed support for the victim and her loved ones and highlighted the horrific nature of Jackson’s actions. She emphasized the commitment to prosecuting such crimes, which are deemed as an unacceptable blight on society. Orr encouraged all victims and witnesses of similar offenses to come forward, report their experiences, and seek support.
The sentencing of Jackson reflects the seriousness of his crimes and the consequences he must now face. The extended sentence is intended to hold him accountable for the abhorrent violence he inflicted on his victim.
