Newport, Wales — Authorities have expelled several students from Lliswerry High School following their involvement in a violent incident that garnered significant attention on social media. The disturbance, which reportedly also included an adult, led to the arrest of three individuals: a 30-year-old man, a 13-year-old boy, and an 11-year-old boy.

The event took place on May 14, when video footage of the altercation emerged, prompting swift action from Gwent Police. All three individuals have since been released on bail as investigations continue. The incident occurred on a footbridge at Spytty Road, raising concerns about student safety and behavior within the community.

In a letter sent to parents, Head Teacher Julia Fitzgerald, along with the chair of governors, Councillor Mark Howells, acknowledged the seriousness of the situation. They confirmed that the learners involved in the incident are no longer attending school and stated that the school’s administration had applied the most serious disciplinary actions available under the guidance of the Welsh Government. “The school continues to be a calm and safe place,” they reassured parents, emphasizing their commitment to fostering a secure environment for all students.

The adult suspect has been charged with affray and assault occasioning actual bodily harm. The older boy faces similar charges, while the younger boy is accused of common assault and affray. Police Chief Vicki Townsend addressed the public, urging caution regarding the information shared online about the ongoing investigation. She reminded citizens that speculative comments could potentially lead to charges of contempt of court.

Townsend expressed gratitude for the community’s support, acknowledging that much information had been provided to assist investigators. “We now believe we have identified the majority of those we suspect to have played a part in this incident,” she stated. “We are working swiftly to apprehend these individuals for questioning.”

As the investigation unfolds, the alleged victim, a student at Lliswerry High, is receiving necessary support. School officials are making it a priority to ensure that the incident does not disrupt the educational experience for the remaining students. They have reaffirmed their dedication to a nurturing atmosphere, despite the current challenges

The incident has sparked broader discussions about youth behavior and the influence of social media on public perceptions of violence among teens. Experts suggest that schools and parents need to engage in open dialogues about the role of digital platforms in disseminating potentially harmful content.

As investigations continue, Lliswerry High School remains focused on ensuring the safety and well-being of its students, preparing to implement further measures as necessary to prevent similar incidents in the future.
