Mauldin, South Carolina – Nine men, seven of them from Laurens, are now facing charges in connection with a shooting on I-385 that resulted in the deaths of two Laurens men nearly four years ago.

The Mauldin Police Department, in collaboration with several law enforcement agencies, announced the arrests on Friday after a long investigation. The arrests were made possible by the joint efforts of the U.S. Marshals Carolinas Regional Fugitive Task Force, South Carolina Law Enforcement Division (SLED), and other local agencies.

The incident occurred in 2021 when two brothers, Rashon Javarous Irby, 29, and Andrekus Davarous Irby, 31, were involved in an altercation on I-385 that led to gunshots being fired. The altercation resulted in a vehicle collision that claimed the lives of the Irby brothers and left several others injured.

Following a months-long investigation and the reopening of the case by Detective Jenna Willson in 2024, charges were finally brought against the nine suspects involved in the incident. The charges include reckless homicide, accessory after the fact, conspiracy, and leaving the scene of an accident with death.

The arrests mark a significant development in the case, which had previously faced challenges due to few leads and uncooperative witnesses. Mauldin Police Chief George Miller expressed pride in the hard work done by investigators to bring resolution to the case and seek justice for the victims and their families.

The suspects currently face various charges, including accessory after the fact, leaving the scene of an accident with death, and conspiracy. Seven of the suspects are being held at the Greenville County Detention Center, while the remaining two are expected to be extradited from other states.

The arrests were the result of a coordinated effort between multiple law enforcement agencies, highlighting their commitment to holding criminals accountable and ensuring justice for the victims and their families. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of collaborative efforts in solving complex criminal cases and bringing closure to those impacted by tragic events.
