EL PASO, Texas – The City of El Paso has announced modifications to bus routes starting tomorrow due to a fire at the Transit Operations Center. The temporary schedule change will last until February 19, impacting Sun Metro Fixed and Brio routes. City Manager Dionne Mack expressed concern for injured staff members and emphasized the need for patience and understanding from riders during this challenging period.

The fire at the Transit Operations Center led to several updates throughout the day. Hospital officials confirmed treating three adults after the explosion, with two in critical condition and one in serious condition. The City’s fire department reported one person seriously injured, while the crime scene unit and a detective arrived at the scene to investigate.

El Paso Electric responded to a request from the fire department to de-energize the facility, while the City’s spokesperson reassured the public that all Sun Metro routes remained operational. However, delays were expected as the day progressed. BorderRAC reported transporting at least three injured individuals to the hospital and is in contact with their families.

JMT, the company responsible for building the facility, described it as a comprehensive campus with various operations and maintenance structures. Meanwhile, emergency units have been deployed to the site, and fire officials are utilizing defensive techniques to combat the fire without risking personnel safety.

The situation led to road closures in the area and visible smoke near the El Paso International Airport. As multiple agencies respond to the incident, efforts are focused on containment and ensuring public safety. El Paso Police are assisting the Fire Department at the Sun Metro Transit Operations Center following reports of a vehicle explosion.
