Polls show that President Donald Trump’s first actions as commander-in-chief are getting him the most support of any time in his presidency. This is a big change from early 2021, when he left office with the least support of his entire presidency.

A poll done by CBS News and YouGov in early February found that 53% of people who answered liked the job Trump was doing.

The results show more support than Trump got in the popular vote in 2024, and they’re also a big change from 2021, when he left office with just over 33% approval, according to a different poll.

Other measures have also shown a rise in support for the second term.

End of January, Gallup found that Trump had a 47 percent approval rating, which was the best score they had ever seen for him.

The polls also show that voters agree with important parts of Trump’s plan.

A CBS poll found that 59 percent of people agreed with Trump’s handling of the Israel-Hamas war, but only 54 percent agreed with his handling of immigration, where he wants to deport millions of people.

Different political groups had different opinions on the administration’s plan to cut costs with Elon Musk through the Department of Government Efficiency.

Overall, 31% of people agreed with the statement that Elon Musk and the department should not have any say in how the government spends money or runs its business. On the other hand, 23% and 28% of people who disagreed said Musk should have “a lot” or “some” say in these areas.

Republicans were strongly in favor, with 30% saying Musk should have a lot of power. Democrats were strongly against it, with almost half saying Musk shouldn’t have any power at all.

Much has changed since the first time Donald Trump was elected to the presidency in 2016, including how Americans felt about him before taking office.

Absence, they say, makes the heart grow fonder and that appears to be the case for the once and future president and the way Americans perceive him, a new poll showed.

The poll, conducted by CNN and released on Thursday, showed that six in 10 Americans believe that Trump will do a “very good” or “fairly good” job during his second term and only 43 percent said he will do a “fairly poor” or “very poor” job,” The Hill reported.

“Among respondents, 55 percent approve of the president-elect’s handling of his transition, while 45 percent disapprove. The figures are the same as in the December iteration of the survey.,” the report said.

“Trump’s favorability is nearly equally divided, with 46 percent saying they have a favorable view of him, while another 48 percent said they had an unfavorable view. Despite Republicans having the trifecta in Washington, 53 percent of respondents said having the House, Senate and the White House under GOP control is “bad” for the country,” it said.

“Another 56 percent said they think a year from today, economic conditions will be either very or somewhat good,” it said.

The poll also revealed that a staggering 80 percent of respondents believe Trump when he says he will impose tariffs on China, Canada, and Mexico.

“At 47%, President Donald Trump’s initial job approval rating for his second term is similar to the inaugural 45% reading during his first term, again placing him below all other elected presidents dating back to 1953. Trump remains the only elected president with sub-50% initial approval ratings, and his latest disapproval rating (48%) is three percentage points higher than in 2017, marking a new high for inaugural ratings,” Gallup reported in January.

“Trump’s current job approval rating, from Gallup’s Jan. 21-27 poll, is not significantly different from the 51% readings earned by George H.W. Bush and Ronald Reagan in the early days of their presidencies. However, initial evaluations of Trump differ in that Americans are much more likely to disapprove of his performance rather than have no opinion, as was the case for the elder Bush and Reagan,” the outlet added.
