Taylor Michel Momsen was born July 26, 1993
in St. Louis, Missouri. Her parents are Michael
and Collette, Momsen and her younger sister
Sloane Momsen, who is also an actress.
Taylor studied ballet at the Center of Creative Arts in St. Louis, an American singer, songwriter, musician, model, former actress and is the original frontwoman of the American Rock Band “The Pretty Reckless” since their inception in 2009.
Her movie career credits include…
• Cindy Lou who in Dr. Suess’ “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.” YES, that is right! That sweet little girl that befriended the Grinch. My favorite Christmas movie!
• Alexandra Anami in “Spy Kids 2: The Island of Lost Dreams,”
• Molly in “Underdog,” and
• Jenny Humphrey on the CW’s “Gossip Girl.”
Taylor won three major awards for young actor performance in the Grinch movie and many more awards for her roles in film. Guess what? She was also in the “Shake ‘N Bake” commercial at age 3 years old!
“The Pretty Reckless” studio albums include:
• “Light Me Up” 2010
• “Going To Hell” 2014
• “Who You Selling For” 2016
• “Death by Rock & Roll” 2021
She considers herself a “workout-aholic” turning to boxing and weight training as a way to keep “sane.” She loves her protein smoothies before each performance.
In her music video “For I am Death” she appears completely nude. She said this… “Anytime I am nude for art, It’s from an artistic perspective. There is something very pure and honest about not tainting something with clothing. Fashion is so important to me, but it’s an ever-evolving thing, it’s constantly changing. I never like to date my music with a style that’s going to put it in a time capsule. Everything I make in art I want to be timeless. In the video she says she turned into the Angel of Death…” clothes don’t fit into that!”
Let’s get to the part where AC/DC fits into all of this. Rick surprised me with tickets to AC/DC’s “Power Up 2025” tour for Christmas, My Favorite Band! The April performance in Dallas. We were sitting in our seats waiting for everything to start. There was a very nice couple sitting next to us. You have to understand how excited I already was to be there! As we talked with the couple next to us, they told us that the opening band was “The Pretty Reckless.” They then told us that the lead singer was Taylor Momsen and that she was the child actress that played Cindy Lou Who in the movie “How The Grinch Stole Christmas.” Are you freaking kidding me?! I am about to see my favorite band AND see Cindy Lou Who of my favorite Christmas movie?! All in one night?! My mind was blown!
Well let me tell you, she came on stage with the kind of energy the older bands had like Mick Jagger! She had the crowd’s attention from the first minute. Her voice was strong and absolutely beautiful, not to mention how beautiful she was herself. She put on a high energy (of the old school rock & roll,) “Power Up” Performance!
Taylor commented on the first night of the American “Power Up” tour in an Instagram post. “Night One with AC/DC”…
San Antonio July 24th, Houston August 31st
Taylor said this… Exhausted, jet lagged, but so excited I can’t sleep… So tired, but in a good way, thank you Germany and Veltin’s Arena for a great tour kickoff.” “One week, two continents, two legendary bands… The Rolling Stones and AC/DC in the same week. It’s gonna be one hell of a ride, Come join us!” (The Pretty Reckless opened for the Rolling Stones at the May 11th performance.)
Taylor Momsen was warned that AC/DC fans were fiercely loyal and might not be welcoming to an opening act. For many performers, this kind of pressure could be overwhelming.
Instead, She found the opposite to be true. Rather than hostility, The frontwoman was met with enthusiasm, respect, and appreciation. The experience has proven to be a career highlight, One that reinforces her deep admiration for AC/DC.
Momsen said her bandmates felt uplifted by the sheer energy of the crowd. The intense loyalty of the AC/DC fans has made them a tough act to open for as history has shown many support bands struggle to gain approval.
As one last crazy footnote to this, while performing
in Seville, Spain, Momsen noticed a bat had latched onto her leg when the audience began screaming and pointing… “Oh my God! There’s a Fucking bat on my leg right now!” Momsen throws her head back laughing as crew members come to remove the bat. “Gracias!” she continues. “It’s alright! and the bat’s fine. He’s going to be my new friend.”
This ironically happened while singing “Witches Burn” of all songs, she say’s “He was cute, but Yes he bit me… So Rabies shots for the next 2 weeks!” Momsen thanked all the staff at the hospital (who dubbed her #BatGirl.) “Dude, I just got fucking Witch’s Burn. A bat flew onto me and held on for dear life and he was very cute but I really don’t want a Rabies shot and he scared the shit out of me and he wanted to be my friend,” She said laughing.
Well there’s my Christmas Story of Cindy Lou Who from “How the Grinch Stole Christmas.”
