Sunnyvale, Texas – It has been a year since a tragic incident unfolded in Sunnyvale, where a family of five was ambushed by a gunman in a getaway car. The attack resulted in the death of a woman, while her adult brother and his three children sustained critical injuries.

Surveillance footage captured the chilling moment when a black sedan blocked a car at the Riverton Trail Townhomes parking lot. A masked man emerged from the passenger side and fired multiple rounds into the parked vehicle, claiming the life of Tyesha Merritt, 27, from Mesquite. Fortunately, her brother and his children have since recovered from the ordeal, with Merritt’s brother spotted fleeing from the scene.

Recent developments in the case saw Sunnyvale Police announcing the arrest of a suspect linked to the homicide in Mississippi. Quantavius Gomillia, 27, was apprehended by the Dallas County Sheriff’s Office and is currently facing murder charges in the Dallas County Jail.

Police Chief Bill Vegas revealed that Gomillia had attempted to evade authorities by seeking refuge in Mississippi, where his father resides. The motive behind the attack remains undisclosed, with investigators suggesting it was a targeted act of retaliation stemming from a previous incident near Sunnyvale.

Despite the challenges faced during the investigation, Chief Vegas commended the dedication of his detective and the collaborative efforts of law enforcement agencies like Mesquite Police, Carrollton Police, and the FBI. The relentless pursuit of justice resulted in Gomillia’s capture, bringing a sense of closure to the victim’s family and the community.

As the injured children continue to recover from the traumatic event, Chief Vegas emphasized the resilience displayed by the young survivors. With one suspect in custody, authorities are actively seeking information to locate the second individual involved in the attack.

Individuals with relevant details pertaining to the case are urged to contact North Texas Crime Stoppers to aid in the apprehension of the remaining suspect and potentially earn a reward for their assistance. The ongoing investigation serves as a reminder of the impact of senseless violence and the importance of community cooperation in combating crime.
