HAMMOND, Ind. – A 31-year-old man from Merrillville, Indiana, has been arrested and charged in connection with a tragic mass shooting at a bar in northwest Indiana over the weekend. Caprice Edward Cashaw faces multiple charges, including murder and attempted murder, according to Hammond police.
Authorities have not disclosed specific details about what led to the deadly incident. The shooting took place at Portside Pub on Indianapolis Blvd., resulting in five people being shot. Tragically, two individuals lost their lives at the scene.
The victims have been identified as 59-year-old Lorraine Reyna and 25-year-old Paul Olivares, both residents of Whiting, Indiana. Olivares was known to work as a bartender at the establishment, adding a personal and devastating element to the tragedy.
Reports indicate that the shooting occurred amidst a domestic dispute in the parking lot, with four individuals stepping in to intervene. Despite their efforts to prevent the situation from escalating, they were met with violence, resulting in the loss of their lives.
Mayor Thomas McDermott expressed sorrow over the incident, emphasizing the selfless actions of those who attempted to aid in a time of need. Three other individuals were injured and taken to local hospitals, with two in serious condition and one in stable condition.
